As a young priest, Ezekiel was taken into Babylonian captivity. In a strange land and among a dejected people, God called him to be a prophet to the Judean exiles in Babylon to give them the Lord’s perspective on the fall of Judah, the destruction of Jerusalem, the sinful past of Israel, and God’s plan for restoration. It is a book filled with visions, rebukes, and hope. Though filled with perplexing imagery, the message of Ezekiel was essentially that of the other prophets – God is the only true and living God, he will judge people for their sins, and he will offer redemption. Anyone seeking to be among God’s faithful people will find the prophecy of Ezekiel insightful, sobering, and hopeful.
